Sidebar | ‘Done and decided’? Baguio court declines to review constitutionality of Anti-Terrorism Act’s implementation

The constitutionality of the Anti-Terrorism Act can still be questioned with regard to how it is actually implemented. In contrast, however, Judge Belmes refused to rule on the matter at all, despite the clear ruling of the Supreme Court in Calleja allowing the same.

‘Unwise and rash’ move to ‘disengage’ from ICC

We don’t have a next move, that is the extent of our involvement with the ICC. That ends all our involvement with the ICC. Because we will no longer appeal, the appeal has failed and there is, in our view, nothing more that we can do in the government and so at this point we essentially are disengaging from any contact, from any communication with the ICC.”

At Ground Level | US military bases are back, via EDCA

This week, the United States and the Philippine militaries – with enthusiastic support from Ferdinand Marcos Jr. – kick-started the implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), the 2014 bilateral executive accord which had been delayed for eight years.

At Ground Level | US-Phl troops prepare for possible war with China

Live-fire training, using naval artillery gunfire and aviation rockets and bombs to sink a vessel in the West Philippine Sea, where China continues its aggressive maneuvers. And the first live-firing here of a US Patriot missile as part of a drill in coastal defense.

Not only drought

Contrary to popular belief that the Kidapawan massacre is one of the logical results of the ecological crisis, the farmers and Lumad could have been spared had their livelihoods and labors been less vulnerable to feudal exploitation.

Libro bilang droga

QUESTION EVERYTHING

MONG PALATINO

How I survived anti-Left academics and became an activist

I was prepared to be disappointed with NatDem politics but instead, I became more immersed in their mass campaigns. I was overwhelmed with several political realizations: Here was a movement making democracy work through collective leadership, here was a political force whose strength is linked to the empowerment of its members in the grassroots, here was history claiming the present to build a new future.

My first five years as a full-time activist

It is methodical, thorough, repetitive, but never dull. That’s why those who lampoon the mundaneness of rallies are either clueless commenters, misinformed keyboard analysts, or apologists of the state.

Reading in the age of distraction

We are back to the basics. Threatened by armies of disinformation, our best weapon is the truth. Reading the truth, deciphering the truth, fighting for the truth. In the age of ephemeral attention, reading is an act we can pursue, promote, and steer towards our other political endeavors.
