Deployment cost: who is to pay

“What’s delaying for their repatriation is the deployment cost being asked by their employer amounting to 5,000 saudi riyals each so that they could be given exit clearance; but it is the company’s fault by breaching its contract and obligation to its hired workers that’s why the caregivers, with no options left, have decided to stop working,” Monterona averred.

Monterona said Migrante International staff in Manila had been representing the distress OFWs along with their relatives to their respective agencies to settle the issue of the deployment cost but to no avail because no one would like to pay.

“We have been told that even OWWA is also awaiting for the recruitment agencies to pay the OFWs deployment cost; so who should shoulder now the deployment cost?, obviously not the distress OFWs as they are the very victims here!” Monterona added.

Monterona said Migrante chapters join the distress OFWs in calling the attention of Mrs. Arroyo to have a kind heart for them by directing RP post officials to facilitate the immediate repatriation of the distress OFWs without further delay.

He also called upon the attention of Presidential candidates and Senatoriables to urge the various RP posts in the Middle East to prioritize the repatriation of all distress OFWs in their respective jurisdiction especially those victims of abuses, maltreatment and malpractices. (Bulatlat.com)
