“It speaks of the kind of leadership we want for DENREU, accountable and just. It’s not simply admitting and apologizing, but being ready to face the consequences of your action.”

Employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources wore black armbands as they called for truth and accountability over the botched police operation in Mamasapano in Maguindanao.

Their symbolic protest action was in time for the oath-taking of newly-elected leaders of the DENR Employees Union (DENREU).

“It speaks of the kind of leadership we want for DENREU, accountable and just. It’s not simply admitting and apologizing, but being ready to face the consequences of your action,” Dr. Bing Manila, an employee, said, adding that those who died deserved such “so their deaths shall not be in vain.

Manila, who hailed from the region of Caraga, had her hair shaved in protest over the seeming cover-up of the investigation of the said police operation.

Critics have called for President Aquino’s removal from office, as primary responsible in the Mamasapano fiasco, which killed 44 members of the Special Action Force, 18 Moro fighters and several civilians. (https://www.bulatlat.org)
