Randy Malayao, a consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines and former vice president for Visayas of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) was abducted May 15 and remains missing as of press time.

Based on the account of Desaperacidos, Malayao was abducted on the night of May 15. He had dinner with some friends in the Ortigas area at around 8 pm and left shortly before 9 pm. While on board a taxi on his way to a relative’s place in Pasig, he sent a text message ,”May sumusunod sa akin.” (Someone is tailing me.) This was the last text message received from him.

In a press statement sent through email, Salvador del Pueblo, spokesperson of the NDF-Northeastern Luzon held the 5th Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as responsible for the abduction. Del Pueblo said that Malayao was reported in the Cagayan Valley’s Security Council Meeting as “about to be captured.”

In another statement, Vijae Alquisola, CEGP deputy secretary general, condemned the abduction. He said that the pattern and manner of Malayao’s abduction is similar to that of another CEGP alumnus Jonas Burgos. (Bulatlat.com)
