Exactly a year after her daughter, University of the Philippines (UP) student Sherlyn Cadapan, was abducted by unidentified men in Hagonoy town, province of Bulacan, Erlinda Cadapan faced the press today to announce that the younger Cadapan is “very much alive.”

Erlinda said there have been sightings of her daughter in the provinces of Bulacan and Bataan, both in Central Luzon, since late 2006. The most recent of which was on April 11 when Sherlyn supposedly visited a relative in Bulacan. Identities of the witnesses are being withheld for security reasons.

When Sherlyn visited the said relative, she was with two women and four burly men, Erlinda said. Sherlyn only took some of her clothes and immediately left with her six companions in a red van. The witnesses were not able to talk to Sherlyn as her companions tightly guarded her.

“Sabi ng mga nakakita sa anak ko, maputla at mukhang pinahihirapan sya. I believe my daughter is being held against her will,” (Witnesses said my daughter is pale and looked like she is being given a hard time by her captors.) Erlinda said. Sherlyn was two months pregnant when she was abducted June 26, 2006. Erlinda said her daughter may have given birth sometime in January this year and that Sherlyn’s child is also in captivity.

Meanwhile, Connie Empeño, mother of Karen who was abducted together with Sherlyn, said there is still no news about her daughter. “Sana kahit patay na ang anak ko ipakita pa rin sa akin,” (I wish they would still show my daughter to me even if she is already dead.) the tearful mother said.(Bulatlat.com)
