Cagayan de Oro City, MISAMIS ORIENTAL – “GMA doesn’t need emergency powers to address the present power shortage in Mindanao because she has enough powers to be able to do something regarding the issue.” This was according to the 3rd nominee of Bayan Muna Partylist, Atty. Joven Laura. “The government should have thought about answers to the power crisis if only it has foresight of the problem. But they should think fast because the automated elections is fast approaching,” he adds. Laura also thinks that granting Gloria Arroyo emergency powers might just result in contracts that are more detrimental than helpful to the people.
He explains that with just two months before the May automated elections and power outages in Mindanao getting worse, people have a reason to be wary of the situation. “The automated election system itself is not worry-free. Reports of a military takeover when elections fail is still in the air. GMA herself, with her allies, is doing maneuvers to attempt to remain in power,” Laura says. He furthers that “the worst thing about the power crisis in Mindanao is that if it is being used to set the condition for a failure of elections.”
Laura reminds the people to remain vigilant and ready for any eventuality should the situation becomes favorable to GMA. “We can always revive the spirit of EDSA 1 if necessary,” Laura says.
