News in Pictures: Morong 43 File Complaint Against Military Before CHR
February 25, 2010

The 43 health workers arrested by the military in Morong, Rizal, on Feb. 6 filed a complaint on Thursday before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR). The complaint against the 2nd Infantry Division and 202nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, and the police authorities involved in the arrest was handed by Atty. Romeo Capulong, lead counsel of the Morong 43, to CHR chairperson Leila De Lima.

Relatives of the Morong 43 were also present during the filing. The complaint includes medical records and affidavits of the 43 claiming they were tortured and abused while in detention in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal.

According to De Lima, the CHR has already drafted an order, to be released on Monday, requiring the AFP to formally respond to the initial findings and recommendations of CHR. De Lima added that the CHR will also issue an order to the Department of Justice for violating the right of the detainees to legal counsel. (Photos by Anne Marxze D. Umil/bulatlat.com)
