News in Pictures: Baguio Folk Flee Homes Due to Typhoon Juan
October 19, 2010

BAGUIO CITY — Some 23 families were evacuated from their homes at City Camp Lagoon Monday morning, as floodwaters begin to rise at the city’s lowest part. Evacuees, numbering to at least 100 individuals, are staying in Aguinaldo Elementary School in Barangay QM.

During Pepeng last year, hundreds of families also fled their homes as the lagoon was engulfed in floodwaters.

However, some residents in Little Kibungan in La Trinidad, Benguet, refuse to leave their homes, despite being declared as a hazardous area by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the DENR.

At least 77 people were killed and several scores rescued here during Pepeng last year, when massive landslides buried the community. (Photos by Artemio A. Dumlao / Bulatlat.com)
