The Writing on the Street. The boy is probably trying to practice writing by copying the slogan “Burukrata-kapitalismo, ibagsak!” (Down with bureaucrat capitalism!) from a placard left by one of the protesters after a recent rally near the Don Chino Roces Bridge, a few steps from the presidential palace. Perhaps at some point in the future, he will be aware that the “burukrata-kapitalismo” he is writing on the asphalt refers, among other things, to the corruption in government which deprives him of the right to so many basic services, like health and education. If that happens he will likely be one of the protesters, holding his own placard.

Beautiful! Freire (Pedagogy of the Oppressed) must be really happy with this gem. Salamat ng marami.
