The way high government officials being investigated for corruption has been filing petitions before the Supreme Court to prevent the Senate from conducting its inquiries seems to give a new meaning to the concept of “executive privilege”. It has turned out to mean the privilege of the executive to dip their hands into the nation’s coffers then keep mum about it, with the right to silence witnesses, to boot.
