News in Pictures: Group Slams Worsening Water Crisis, Privatization


Members of the group under the Water for the People Network (WPN) trooped to the office of the Metropolitian Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to urge the agency to immediately address the current water crisis in Metro Manila. They said that the failure of MWSS to ensure the provision of clean, adequate and affordable water supply and service in the region is due to privatization.

Progressive groups today marched to Chino Roces Bridge (formerly Mendiola Bridge) to demand justice for Fernando Baldomero, the first activist killed under the new Aquino administration. Baldomero, a Bayan Muna provincial coordinator of Aklan, was shot yesterday by motorcycle-riding men, in front of his house in Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan, while preparing to bring his son to school. He suffered three gunshot wounds in the head.

Lopez approached a delegate of the PIOM while waiting for the opening of the canvassing area in the Provincial Capitol. The PIOM team asked Vanessa Roncal, supervisor of the Comelec in the region, if she knew about the presence of US embassy personnel in Bangued. Roncal replied that the US embassy personnel came right after the PIOM paid a visit to the Comelec Regional office.

MANILA -- The transmission of election results did well in Quezon City High School in Kamuning, Quezon City.  The transmission of results only took one to two minutes per transaction. The Board of Elections Inspectors told Bulatlat on Monday night that there were no major problems encountered with the Precinct Count Optical Scan machine, unlike in other areas.
