Despite being scared, we must continue our mission towards a world with no violence, a world where peace and justice reigns. This should be our motivation, being followers of Christ.  In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. (Luke 14:33).

By living a life of humility and gratitude to God, we therefore must always remember those whom our Lord Jesus Christ cared for – the poor, the destitute, those who have nothing and those who long for God’s complete salvation. For we once were like them, in need of God’s salvation.

But, the greatest preparation of them all is this, are we ready to accept and claim the comprehensive notion of salvation (economic, political, cultural, spiritual and environmental) that only comes from God? Are we ready to follow the way, the truth and the life who is Jesus Christ? We know we will die sometime, but we do not know exactly when. Did we address the things that truly matters, like love, forgiveness and reconciliation before we die?

Today we also are called to draw closer to Jesus and his mission of bringing about a new reign of justice, peace and love. As disciples, we know from experience the path is not easy. Moving into a new Government, we need to heed the advice of Jesus to his talmidim to be alert, especially as we see hungry farmers still being arrested for planting food crops, false charges against progressive people and organizations continuing, ecological defenders harassed and killed and indigenous peoples displaced.

Today’s gospel provides us guidance on how to be disciples today. To be able to share the Good News, we must be ready to speak the truth. We should come prepared for some people to reject us because God’s ways are different. Do not expect royalties, retainers, commissions, and other rewards for it is not promised.

On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Eucharist shows us that the way forward is not to focus on ourselves and on our “truths” but to move toward others, especially those who are in need, as Jesus Christ had shown us in his life, ministry, passion and resurrection. There are no alternative truths and we cannot own the truth.

When humankind was brought into being, they were not just any kind of creatures, but beings created in God’s likeness. God wants to share something of the Divinity, something within the Triune God which seeks to be expressed and can only be expressed by bringing into being humankind and the whole creation.

Jesus, you chose the lowly Lake of Galilee to meet your successor who would continue your mission, please do the same for our country. Please choose the humblest yet most capable of running the country. The Filipinos deserve a better leader, one who relates with the poor, loves the poor and is poor. Amen.

From where I sit, I turn my gaze to these saints, these holy ones. They too have had their share of their own passion, death and resurrection. They have followed Jesus’ path unto death. We too are called now. This is our time

When God becomes secondary, the following “10 D’s” are bound to happen in our life especially as consecrated people- Decentralisation, Disillusionment, Demotivation, Deflowering, Disaffection, Disorientation, Degeneration, Depression, Deviation and Destruction! We are being challenged to reflect and discover in our daily life how these “10 D’s” take form as God becomes secondary in our life due to temptations by the devil.

Ang pagiging mapanuri at mapagmatyag sa panahon ngayon ang panawagan sa ating lahat. Piliin natin ang mga lider na pinipiling magbagong anyo tungo sa ikakabuti ng nakakarami at hindi ang nagbabalat-kayo na puro salita at punong-puno ng paglilinlang.

We Christians participate in national election as part of our democratic privilege and responsibility. We are told today who our enemies and friends are. Certainly Jesus sides with the poor and the oppressed in history. Unless the rich man had a change of mind and gave a portion of his wealth to the poor, and stand in solidarity with the poor, I think we know who our enemies are.

Madaling maging Kristiyano, pero ang magpaka-kristiyano ay paano? Marami sa atin naging kristiyano lamang sa papel, pero hindi nakikita na isinasabuhay ang ating pagiging mga binyagan.

Tulad ni Hesus na hindi nangiming harapin ang nasa kapangyarihan upang ipahayag ang mabuting balita sa mga mahihirap, paglaya sa mga bihag at palayain ang mga inaapi. (Lukas 4:18) Buhay man ang naging kapalit.

Ang tunay na pagbangon mula sa isang krisis kailanman ay hindi maaaring gawin ng may pagkakanya-kanya. Tulad ng pagharap natin sa pandemya, hindi maaaring kumain at uminom ang iba habang patuloy ang pagdurusa ang marami.

The gifts of the Spirit support this promise. That being God’s Delight, though we are suffering, God will supply us with wisdom, understanding, fortitude… gifts that will allow us to shine to be truly God’s Kahalihalinang Liwanag.

As forerunners of just peace, equity, and liberation, like John the Baptist, who announced the coming of the Messiah, the task is truly a challenge and may possibly cost one’s life while in the process. Announcing God’s jubilee would mean proclaiming that salvation does not only involve the soul but as well as the physical, mental, economic, social, and political aspects of our human life.

This Second Sunday of Advent we are admonished to have a second look at how we understand what it means to repent.
