a
Stamp ‘Congress’
November 24, 2008

The way these rubber stampers are gathered along a street in downtown Manila, they look as though they’re in a stamp “congress”. The term “rubber stamp” has somehow acquired pejorative connotations, but these men are trying their best to earn their keep in a respectable manner – unlike many congressmen, whose signatures serve as “rubber stamps” for either whimsical or patently unjust decrees, just like the current signature campaign at the Lower House calling for charter change through constituent assembly, which is allegedly being pushed to perpetuate the Arroyo government in power beyond 2010.
