Heavy but Necessary

Asked whether she was not worried that the performances were very emotionally-charged and might be too heavy, Santiago said that “ these things happen to Filipino children and it is very important that the whole world sees that.”

Moreover, Santiago said they are confident that their Italian audience could handle such heavily emotional performances.

On the other hand, Quinsayas added that when he was conceptualizing and writing the script for the solo pieces, he had enough confidence in his actors. “They are dedicated, interested and very intelligent,” he said of Adi, Donita and Nicole.

During the technical and dress rehearsal, a dance interpretation of the human-rights violations-themed song entitled Pahayagan and a dance drama about the history of the Filipino struggle against foreign intervention and imperialism were also performed.

The youth will be back from Italy on December 4 and will be showcasing their performances here in Manila during the activities in commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. (Bulatlat.com)
