Tulad ni Hesus na hindi nangiming harapin ang nasa kapangyarihan upang ipahayag ang mabuting balita sa mga mahihirap, paglaya sa mga bihag at palayain ang mga inaapi. (Lukas 4:18) Buhay man ang naging kapalit.
Ang tunay na pagbangon mula sa isang krisis kailanman ay hindi maaaring gawin ng may pagkakanya-kanya. Tulad ng pagharap natin sa pandemya, hindi maaaring kumain at uminom ang iba habang patuloy ang pagdurusa ang marami.
The gifts of the Spirit support this promise. That being God’s Delight, though we are suffering, God will supply us with wisdom, understanding, fortitude… gifts that will allow us to shine to be truly God’s Kahalihalinang Liwanag.
As forerunners of just peace, equity, and liberation, like John the Baptist, who announced the coming of the Messiah, the task is truly a challenge and may possibly cost one’s life while in the process. Announcing God’s jubilee would mean proclaiming that salvation does not only involve the soul but as well as the physical, mental, economic, social, and political aspects of our human life.
This Second Sunday of Advent we are admonished to have a second look at how we understand what it means to repent.
As Filipino citizens, we have both the ability and responsibility to remind, denounce and help our leaders understand the adverse effects of injustice, oppression, marginalization and the causes of poverty and hunger and the act to eliminate them.
Let us command, not beg. Let us make love our collective political capital to stand up against the enormous political power that has been the cause of our struggles in life. Jesus’ command to love God and to love our neighbors is our primary source of strength and inspiration.
I am reminded of the life of Fr. “Pops” Tentorio, PIME, an Italian priest who spent 33 years of his life serving the indigenous people and poor peasants in Mindanao. For being good and true to the call of priesthood and servanthood, he was killed by elements believed to be members of a para-military group.
The goods of creation are destined for the whole human race. It is intended primarily to be shared and not to be accumulated.
“Ipagtanggol mo ang mga di makalaban, ipaglaban ang kanilang karapatan. Ipahayag mo nang malinaw ang katotohanan at ang katuwiran, at igawad ang katarungan sa api at mahirap.” (Kawikaan 31:8-9)
Tandaan natin na si Kristo ay nakaranas ng matinding mga paratang, paniniktik, pananakot, pag-aresto, pagtortyur, at pagpako sa krus hanggang kamatayan. Ngunit muling nabuhay na muli kapiling ng mga ordinaryong mamamayan tulad ng mga magsasaka, manggagawa, mga ulila, byuda, mga aping kababaihan at bata. Sa katunayan, sila ang mga pinapahalagahan ni Kristo- silang mga minamaliit at pinagtatabuyan ng emperyo. Ang mga tulad nila ang dahilan ng kanyang pagsasakatawang tao upang maisulong ang kaganapan ng buhay para sa lahat at hindi lamang sa iilan.
Wala na tayong pera. 'Yan ang sabi ng madamot at malupit na pangulo. Kagaya ng babae at lalaking nakaranas ng pagdaloy ng kapangyarihan ng Diyos, huwag tayong pumayag na ipagkait sa atin at sa ating mga mahal sa buhay ang yaman ng ating sariling bansa.
In the whole life story of Jesus, he was indeed a blessed one. He identified himself with poor and the downtrodden because the Kingdom of God belonged to them.
Why are there so many hungry? So many robbed of their right to housing? So many in need of the basic necessities of safe food, safe water, education and health services? What has become of leaders, so corrupt and overcome with greed?
At habang pinapawi natin ang pagkagutom ng ating kapwa, anong uri ng pagkain ang ating inihandog? Nakabubusog ba? Masustansya ba? O, basta na lang natin binigyan ng pagkain ang ating kapwa na walang pagpapahalaga sa kanyang dignidad at pagkatao?

Carrying ones cross and to sacrifice is truly difficult. A prophet is not a fortune teller but somebody who has the courage and boldness to tell the truth in a particular context by announcing the good news and denouncing the evil that plagued that society.
ur country is stained with blood of innocent martyrs. Killings continue on a daily basis, with the perpetrators go unpunished. There is a time to mourn to honor the victims and there is a time to continue what the martyrs have started. And, as Jesus said to the little girl: “Talitha Koum!” (“Little girl, I say to you, GET UP!”), it is also time for us Christians and disciples of Christ to get up.
In sharp contrast to the biblical times, lives lost today were unholy sacrifices to the altar of greed, corruption (abuse of power), and injustices. These aren’t celebrated, but mourned. These aren’t lifted up to the skies, but buried with the heaviest burdens in our hearts.
