MANILA – Progressive groups led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) protested at the United States embassy along Roxas Boulevard on July 4, Filipino-American Friendship Day.

“There’s no friendly relations between US and the Philippines. The only relationship that exists on both countries is a master-slave relationship,” Eleanor de Guzman of BAYAN said. She said that all the agreements was passed between the two countries mostly favor the US.

She said that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement and the Visiting Forces Agreement just paved the way for the return the US bases in the country after these were booted out in 1991.

By using the dispute in the West Philippine Sea, the US is increasing its presence of troops, ships and bases.

“The US is not really interested in helping establish a self-reliant Armed Forces for the country, they are only want to dominate the Philippines, as well as the whole Asia,” De Guzman said.
