MANILA – As soon as President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III became “Citizen Noynoy” at noon today, June 30, youth groups from the National Capital and Southern Tagalog regions hounded him at his residence along Times Street, in Quezon City to call for his immediate arrest and incarceration for various accountability to the youth and the people, such as the K to 12 program.
Groups such as Kabataan Partylist, Anakbayan and League of Filipino Students met Aquino’s stepping down with unrest, as they demanded accountability for the abuses and injustices during his administration.
The protesters converged at Times street coming from the mobilization in Mendiola, where progressives presented the People’s Agenda in time for President Rodrigo Duterte’s inauguration. The youths, numbering about 100, pushed through the metal barricades, which they managed to pull out and held in a brief tug-of-war with the police. However, they failed to push through the rows of police that guarded the former president’s gate.
There were no reported injuries from the altercation between the activists and the police.
Before leaving, the group held a short program in which they promised to demand accountability from the former president, who, they said, should suffer the consequences of his crimes against the masses.
